I have stripped my winch down as it had stopped working and it seems that the gearbox isn't as "Waterproof" as lead to believe. I have drained it all out and started cleaning it all but was wondering if it is a special sort of grease that is needed when I put it back together?

Cheers

Thick black moly grease, it's an extreme pressure grease with added molybdenum, great stuff, or if you can get it the JCB blue waterproof extreme pressure grease is also good stuff.

Black moly it is then, as I have some of this.

Thank you

Mine is due an overhaul after being sat on the front for the last 7yrs in all weathers, you've inspired me to put it on the list, after the welding is done and the MOT lol

I was recommended a white "waterproof" grease by one of the winch sellers when I asked them what to use.
Having pulled it apart after 18 months , it has stood up well to a lot of dunking / completely submerged for lengths of time to a lot of mud and horrible water.

Cheers
