Hello
I just wondered if anyone have some experience With waterpumps from Proflow Britpart.
I ordered the genuine wp but since the dealer did not have it in Stock they sent me the one from proflow instead. I saw that the inside was made of some type of white plastic . And i became a little worried if this was a bad quality WP and if anyone know a little more about this.
best regards
Ole Martin

Only fit water pumps with a metal impeller. It's not unknown for the plastic impeller to come loose from the shaft when hot. This obviously stops it from being a water pump and turns is into a simple pulley.
I only use metal impeller water pumps for safety.

Don't risk any poor quality parts in a V6 cooling system.
I know they are pricey but I'd go genuine, or OEM at a push.
NEVER Britpart.

Thanks for replying .
It,s a Freelander 2,5 L V6 ,sorry didn,t said that. I heard here in Norway also that this waterpump is bad so i have ordered the Genuine one.
Now i,m going to make some kind of system for all the parts when im going to take out the old engine from the car . I get good help from a good friend of mine that is
a Land Rover Mechanik and are a super suport for me ,im only a hobby mechanik . I saw there was some threads in here that i am going to studdy.
I know howe importent the cooling system on this engine are but i,l admit that there are a sea of type and prices of hoses/parts and are going to order the last
parts from LR Direct in England so then i would be sure to get propper quality on the parts. To be honest i thougt that Britpart had ok quality , so what about the hoses that are OEM ? are this hoses/parts ok quality or do i have to bye geniune here also. Have to ask because i admit that price do Count some times .
I,m realy thankfull for all hints and are going to Return the Proflow WP at once.
Best regards Ole Martin

The most important thing with the KV6 is keeping the cooling system sealed so it doesn't leak. The thermostat assembly is cheap plastic rubbish. So make sure you get a new one. Make sure you use plumbers silicone grease to fit the O rings and it's sensible to change the thermostat every 2 years.
I prefer to use blue ethylene glycol antifreeze as it actually has a better cooling capacity than modern OAT antifreeze.
Also make sure that the oil coolers are clear on the water side, these can block.
Also make sure the radiator is clear. I would replace the rad if there's any concerns.
It's vital that the coolant tank is crack free and the cap must hold over 16 PSI (most don't)
It's also worth fitting a coolant level sensor into the tank, hooked up to some sort of driver warning. This is a good safety net as the KV6 simply doesn't tolerate low coolant as it pops the head gaskets, almost instantly.
Good luck.

Thanks Nodge68. Well the coment about a coolant Level sensor in the tank ,isn,t the chances for even more leaks from the cooler tank or ???
and you say that you use blue Antifreeze , i heard that it only or it was prefered to use red Antifreeze for this engine . The car had been standing
for over one year during Cold Winter in minus - 25 C With no cooling in the system so it can get expencive car in the end. But i am an optimist .
Previous owner said to me that he heard a rumbling noise from the engine one Cold november morning . He drove to a garage and they set in a New Coolertank
because they ment it was leaking from the tank , he drove home 20 km and it still was no antifreeze . Its what he did afterword that i was sepraised to hear.
He filled the system with anthifreeze and drove 40 km and in the Undersea tunnel to Oslo up the last 5 km of the tunnel is in 10% hill klimbing. The Landy skreamed from the engine and he stopped half way up. The engine was dead and it couldnt be saved . I have bought a used engine at 105000km and it was the only engine
for a resabonable price and this is in good condition. I have been searching for the Throttle body hose that is gone so maybe anyone do know of someone who have one for sale without buying the airfilter unit.

The KV6 engine was designed to use blue ethylene glycol antifreeze. It's only some kind of registration that forced the use or OAT (red) antifreeze.
Adding a coolant level sensor won't give you any additional leakage if it's done correctly.
The engine is capable of running flat out constantly if the cooling system is working correctly and it is using good quality oil.
I've had lots of KV6 vehicles, generally finding the engine is pretty good. I have turned quite a few, some made about 220 Bhp which is about as much as can be squeezed out of them before reliability drops.
I like them, they are a good unit, providing the cooling system is maintained correctly.

Hello again Nodge 68 or anyone .
I am very confused because i have now contacted Rimmer Bros about which waterpump i could buy that had a metall impeller, and suprisingly enough the answer was that all of their waterpumps for the Freelander KV6 was equiped With PLASTIC impeller included the Genuine from Land Rover.
I must admit that i,m a little chocked about this and hope some of you could help me With where i can buy the waterpump With metall impeller.
If it,s true about the genuine one from LR also got plastic impeller ,well then im disapointed.
I also wondered who got the temp sensor kit for the cooler tank because i will follow Your advice about this, but i want to do it properly.
Best Regards
Ole Martin

Good You so right. I logged in to this page and have now ordered WP With metall impeller .
And ive found the Coolant temp senor and wiering .
Is it a tread in here that is a guid to install the temp cooler or maybe on Youtube , I saw Hippo had something there.
What model are Your Freelander V6 and do you got a Picture of it. Have you done much With it.

The coolant sensor is easy to change. The water pump is much more involved as the timing belt needs to be replaced at the same time. (Guide in my sig below)
I don't have a V6 Freelander any more but I have been working on the KV6 for almost 20 years. I also have a KV6 engine in my workshop, waiting for the time to install it into my MGF!
