Hello every one am new on here o please bear with me ……. I have a 1976 lightweight
.
Has a v8 rover 3.9 ……. Was run on an ancillary tank .but I am trying to get it back to the original tanks …… problem I am having I have tried two in line pumps lancet and a Quinton hazel one,as was told it is puller and not a pusher type…… I can not get enough fuel pulling up out of the tank back to the su carbs …… it will run but can not keep up with flow …..once carbs empty …… ha any one come across this before if so advice much appreciated……. Oh at the mo am running it on motorcycle bottle gravity fed. Round paddock lol

Thanks
Dave

Aye you saying it won't even idle? Are you sure everything is set up right? You're not looking for high pressure to an su carb

Early v8 had a facet type pump by the tank that pulled from tank. Go to a LR site as these are cheaper than a facet. (Max 6psi)
Of course that’s as long as the 3.9 is in carbs..
If not you need a higher pressure pump (bullet type of a Ford) & regulator to get correct pressure

Thanks for quick reply …… there was a facet on it …. But rusted up as was stood 14 years .
the hazel pump ( morris minor ) puller type , one is new as I was told this would work ….. zenith carbs on it .
Running on a fuel bottle gravity feed up in the runs fine which I did just to start motor ….. sounds lovely ticks over fine on that ……… problem is pulling from them tanks as pump can only be mounted below them …… could put on bulk head but think may be fire risk as they do get a little hot under bonnet as you know will post some pics later when back home .

Thanks
Dave

I've never had an issue running any electric pump on a carburettor V8. Pushers or pullers don't seem to mind. Its a short enough run between tank and carbs. I'm currently using the small solid state Facet pump, mounted vertically on the gearbox to keep it away from power washing etc. It also keeps the pump at a low point. I wouldn't mount one in the engine bay. Most important thing is to fit a second filter ahead of the pump to keep rust and dirt from entering the pump. I chose not to use the OE Facet pump from a 2 door Rangie as they make a bit of noise. I also suggest the use of a pair of SU's from an Rover SD1. They're nicer to drive than Strombergs in my experience.
