Hi folks I,m going to look at a 1996 90 on tuesday, what should i look out for. should the engine be 200 or 300tdi, how will i know which I am looking at. This is my first 90 as I,ve been a series man up till now but I need the extra towing capacity so it's time to moderise. thanks in anticipation G.W.

imho a 200tdi, its a bit easier to work on and very reliable...others prefer the 300 its much of a muchness (no idea what that means).

Look for...well, could be here all night, and i will be as im at work.

Chassis, get under and have a dig in all the loadbearing points you can..look for rust, bad welds, dead badgers, whatever.

Bulkhead..the same, especially footwells, look under mats etc...around the doorhinges and the air vents.

Engine...the usual, knocking, coughing, smoking...when you're done doing that, look at the engine.

More to follow..from others wiser than me....:welcome2:

You're used to the series LR's...you must have a good idea of where to look...Compare things/prices from all sources, dealers, ebayers, autotraders, mates in the pub...try and get as much history as possible...did it belong to a bloke with a 45 foot trailer who drove it 8 hours at a time full throttle..yes its true...
