Hello everyone, not posted for a while. I have just wrecked my 300TDI engine, by water ingress into the motor while wading - No, it wasn't my first time laning, just a bad call.

Anyway, the motor hydrauliced. It will turn over by hand with a spanner on the front pulley, but then just comes to a stop - I assume a damaged conrod or crank maybe..........the rear crankseal is ****ing out oil.

I really dont want to remove the motor, or to buy a secondhand one that could be ****e anyway, and if the crank is damaged, it wont be an in-situ repair. In short, I am considering selling the Landy as is, or maybe breaking it if necessary. If anyone has a 300tdi lump kicking around, this will be a very cheap, very good Disco. Here is spec:

  • 1996 Discovery 300tdi XS
  • Black with half leather trim - excellent condition
  • Black modular rims with Cooper STT Discoverer tyres (1500 miles, 4 months old)
  • 2" suspension lift (Bearmach springs on pro-comp shocks)
  • Tubular winch bumper (custom made with integral foglights)
  • Winch-it 13000 winch with wire (used once only and worked great)
  • Aircon, ABS, electric windows (one rear not working)
  • No leaky sunroofs
  • Very tidy body, no corrosion, just a few light scratches from laning which will polish out
  • Carpets only got wet once, which was last week, so interior is really nice, seats all in A1 condition
  • Very solid underneath, boot solid, floors solid, sills welded before
  • New alternator, water pump, belts (inc timing), tensioner, well serviced
  • MASSIVE SERVICE HISTORY......every receipt and bill its ever had.
I really dont want to part with it, but I don't want to swap the motor, and spend money sorting out issues with a used lump that has its own problems. If anyone has any ideas, let me know, or it will probably be on its way.

Cheers, Dale

MY advice would be to break it. and sell the parts on egay.. as it stands you'll be lucky to get more than £500 for it.

Where is it located anyway??

I am in Southampton. Looking at all the ****ters on ebay that have bids for spares or repair, I know I can get much more than £500..........but I am a realist, I dont expect a pound less than what I paid for it.

I would be open to sensible offers. Bearing in mind that the wheels/tyres are only a few months old and cost £700, winch was £250, bumper £250,
and it is a VERY tidy and solid body and interior with a high spec. I am not expecting my money back on what i've spent, but I know what to reasonably expect.

strip the tinsel off it and scrap it or man up and buy an engine £200-£250 from time to time on ebay

Bearing in mind it had a working engine when you paid money for it....

Yes, I know. People are welcome to view it. But we all know the the value of the parts.......and yes, that is secondhand value, and we all know the rarity of a good solid disco this age and spec.

I know its got a ****ed motor......but what I love about this site, is when someone has a ****ed motor, there is never any shortage of people saying how cheap and easy it is to replace an engine......'done in a day for £300' etc...........so I can't be wrong in assuming its worth a reasonable amount (more than £650)

Lets get real here as soon as you buy something new it has lost 50% as a second hand value.

I bought a discovery for £300 last year and did the head gasket and sold it for £1200.

Motors do come up on ebay for £200-£250 if you look.

So lets be honest your looking to bale on it or you would man up and look for an engine or strip it to recover your money.

If you do not like the responses your getting it is possibly because people know exactly what things are worth on here

What's all the 'man-up' talk? I know we all want a bargain........its nothing to do with not liking responses, its more of a case of people testing the water and trying to get a steal........which is perfectly fine, as I would want something for as cheap as I could get it.......but I am not very likely to just sell it for the first £500 waved under my nose.......I posted on here, as I dont just want to go straight to ebay to sell it, and wondered what people's thoughts are............I said I didn't want to fit an engine, and telling me to 'man-up' isn't about to shame me into it. But if that is your opinion, that's cool, and if you are not interested in it then that's fine. Just because I don't have ten million posts, it doesn't mean I don't have an idea of what its worth..................I ****ing knew the post would end up like this..........good old Landyzone.........

Feel free to report me and close the door on your way out!

Further to this you have been here long enough to know people will help for a few beer tokens and bacon sandwiches- so you could have thought well an engine off the bay and some help.

If you don't like what I had posted as a constructive assessment of the situation- there is always Diflock or LRO forums.

I'm not grizzling.........its funny...........and predictable. There are far more serious things in life to worry about............and you sat on your laptop, hammering the keys and spitting at the screen cos we have a difference of opinion on value, really won't lose me any sleep babes.
