So, I'm approaching renewal time.

Using GoCompare I've been given a range of prices around £550 fully comp.

Not bad.

Just to see I thought I'd see how much I'd save by going 3rd party only, the car is pretty old, and I'd repair it myself in the event of an accident that was my fault. Prices?

Around £1200!

For less cover. No legal protection, no hire car, no nothing.

How the hell does that work?

They think you only want fire and theft so you can torch it and claim.....!!!!

Fully comp = people who care about and look after their car..
Third party = people who do not care about their cars..

Load of nonsense..

Lancaster online have come in at £2463!

They obviously just don't want the business.

Deterrent pricing. Not aimed at you - aimed at under 20s who've just passed their tests.

G~

thats good !

the insurance on my L322 cost me £3.5K at 19 years old !
with 2 years no claims at the time. lol

I hear that they are renaming the risk assessment offices at the insurance comapnies to Income Optimisation departments

went with Admiral as well, 2001 4.6, LPG, tinted windows, exhaust mod, came in at 1166 fully comp. took extra cover for the baby in case of accident and needs hospital for extra 35. thats with '0' NCD. not too bad i thought.

Me and the wife, 2000 P38 4.6, 3 years NCD, £250.16 fully comp from Direct Line (which is quite a bit cheaper than insuring the VW Transporter with maximum NCD).

Years ago i had an XR3. The comprehensive insurance (full no claims) went up on renewal from £64.00 a year to £108.00 a year. So i went into the broker and asked him why. I asked what would be the price of third party fire and theft. Answer £106.00 sir. After a long discussion on how they could do comprehensive for £2.00. He admitted the price had gone up because these vehicles were easy to steal. So i asked him how much for third party only. Answer was £102.00. Do you understand that logic, no neither did I?
