Sorry for the stupid question but I'm in a hurry. I live in Africa and I struggle to find slightly more unusual bits for working on my TD5. I can get things shipped out from the UK but liquids and powders aren't allowed and getting them here is a massive pain. Like, I need to drive to England, put them in my car, and drive back. I could ask the locals for some of this stuff but they all speak gibberish and I only speak Google Translate.

I've just found out that my brother is flying out here for a week and he's got a suitcase allowance of 23kg, which he isn't planning on using. I need to get this stuff ordered and sent to him quick, can anyone suggest thing I should be getting? I don't get many chances like this.

I'm in the process of changing the cylinder head and I have a bunch of bodywork to work on, but what else may I need in the future? Right now I'm asking him for plumbers putty, degreaser for the engine bay, and I'm asking him for Loctite but I'm not sure which ones Land Rover recommend. Will I need some high temperature ones for refitting cylinder head components?

I doubt that any airline will allow liquids of any quantity in luggage. And certainly not flammable ones. Check with airline ;). Small bottle of aftershave excepted. :D

:) Good idea, I better check which airline he's with.
We've managed it before. As long as it's in the checked luggage and not carry on. The mother-in-law bought a suitcase full of baked beans and HP sauce for us. I'm not asking him to bring a 5L bottle of oil but I think things like Loctite will be fine.

get some copper grease and probably some penetrating/releasing fluid. Engine/gearbox/diff oil as well perhaps, but surely that is available in Africa? Perhaps brake and power steering fluid also. Grease for your props and hubs if you are planning on doing anything with those. Brake cleaner or degreaser?

And most importantly, some nice whisky!

Copper grease is a good one. I think I can find those other ones locally and I snuck a load of gearbox oil over in the vehicle when it was shipped.

I think two weeks ago I would have been gagging for an order of whisky from the UK but we just managed to get a big £300 order of duty free alcohol in. I’ve got 12 litres of whisky arriving next month. I won’t be getting much work done when that arrives.

Scotch I hope?

I wouldn't bother with degreaser - just use paraffin which I am sure you can get locally. Put "higher value" stuff in the case
