I ASKED WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHUNKIEST TYRES I COULD PUT ON A SET OF MODULARS THAT AT PRESENT HAS 235/70/16 . I WAS ASKED "What "J" are the rims?" I HAVE LOOKED ON MY SPARE TYRE-LESS RIM AND CAN SPOT NO MARKING OF ANY SORT . HOW CAN I TELL WHAT J THEY ARE ?

afaik, you take the measurement across the width of the wheel just inside the rim. where the tyre bead goes. that gives you the j number.
summat like 4.5 inch or 5 inch. (poss 5.5 inch).

Okey Dokey !
I Have Measured "the J"
Now Then I Have 235/70/16 Tyres On 7 J Modulars . How Big-fat-chunky Can I Go With New Tyres Without Any Suspension Mods ?
Thanx
Andrea1:)

205 is a standard tyre on a 7j rim, i personally wouldn't go any bigger than 235's. basically 7j is 7 inches wide. 235 is 235 mm wide. 7 inches is 180mm roughly so you would be increasing it by 55mm any wider and you could be in danger of distorting the shape of the tyre. ;)

THE REASON I ASKED WAS WHEN I VIEWED TO BUY THE DEFENDER IT HAD FIRESTYLE'S WITH 265/70/16 & IT LOOKED GREAT !
I DIDN'T KNOW IF MY MODULARS WITH 235/70/16 WOULD TAKE THE 265 TYRES .
I HAVE SEEN A FEW DEFENDERS WITH VERY LOW PROFILE TYRES , WHATS THIS ALL ABOUT THEN ?
