HI, I have the chance of a 3.5 V8 engine out of a 110. I currently have a 1989 110 fitted with the 19j 2.5 td engine fitted to the LT77 5 speed gearbox and transferbox. Is it possible to use my Lt77 or is it not strong enough, it`s a good box, nice and smooth. If not what would I need ?
Would the V8 fit in using same mounting points for engine and box.
Any ideas welcome, regarding wiring, throttle cable, exhaust, anything you can think of really. If anyone knows of any links which shows a V8 being fitted, could you let me know. Cheers

as far as the box goes you could try and find an lt85 (santana box) which are very strong.
A long stick v8 lt77.
Or get a conversion plate to fit yours. There are plenty of plates kicking around for series which will be the same, normally fairly cheap.
The engine mounts will not line up and would have to be cut off and the v8 ones welded on.
wiring is simple just your feed to the stop solenoid goes to the coil instead, assuming its on carbs. then just move the starter and alternator wiring and oil and water senders.
Fairly involved job really, have to drain and flush fuel tank. Fit fuel pump, re-do exhaust etc.
200tdi would pretty much drop straight in and would give you better power, more economy and reliability. Although without the burble!

The LT85 would have been the original fitment for a V8. Although the LT77 is a 'lighter duty' version, it should still be beefy enough for an ageing V8 :p
