Being concentric with the shock absorber means that the shock absorber can sit inside the turret and take up less room. The turret is also stronger that a bracket on the chassis, especially given how hight it has to be.

Mud and stones dont gat stuck in them, and you can see your dampers better, if they are damaged etc. less likely to rust. If the ones posted by a_v_p.
 
The only advantage is you can hold the shock easier when installing/removing them. They can also be ordered taller or shorter depending on how you wish to setup your suspsnsion.
 
I always thought it was to make less of a mud trap when offroading. The cone ones can fill up with crap and rust out.:confused:
 
Just fitted some Terrafirma to my 110 and as the man says stops mud & debris getting compacted in the turret.
