Hi everyone. i have a aeries swb landy with a 110 diesel engine its a series three looker but a series chassis by the book so who knows. I also have a 98 range rover p38 with the top of the rad blown. I beleive there to be an outward leak inthe 2.5 bmw engine thats causing the system to pressurise and pop the rad as this is the second one its done. However this means that i am not going to bother fixing it as it wouldnt be cost effective. The upside is that i have a top class breaker and was wondering what parts can be used on the series to make it a bit more up to date.

I know little about landrovers but enough to know that a lot of the parts on a p38 wont fit anything else but i was wondering about the axles complete with disc brakes etc and ive heard of the power steeing possibilities but would like a bit of guidance. can the axles be swapped over and will drives etc mate up to them from thr standard series gearbox or should i just be happy with the rough and fun to drive series and let that be that.

I know the purists among you will be tut tutting and saying such things as fag in relation to power steering but im making this my daily drive and hunting vehicle so want it a bit more user friendly. Maybe user friendly and series just shouldnt appear in the same page lol. Many thanks in advance even to those who will attack.

i run a 109 utility as my daily in standard trim apart from the 200tdi and early RR/Disco diffs without any problem

but i am looking at possibly gathering up the P38 steering box for use as i get older to take the weight off the steering if i start getting a little feeble or pains (there's getting to be plenty of descriptions of fitting already posted on the web)

also possibly eventually fitting a S3 dual line servo assisted braking system and probably an aftermarket disc brake kit to the front axle

your RR axles will require the suspension mounts removing and new spring perches welding on which is not really a job (in my opinion) for bodgery and beyond "most" home mechanics/fabricators abilities/facilities, not least due to the problem of draglinks being too likely to clash with the leaf springs if the perches are positioned incorrectly

i doubt the P38 diffs are any use in the standard rover axles as i'm going to guess they're 24 spline which doesn't match the 10 spline halfshafts fitted

anything else you may find in the P38 to fit to your Series will be a "new to me" item
 
Diffs are 4 peg I think so wont fit. Axles will be awkward to transplant. Bout the only useful thing in the p38 is the seats
