2 Things I have done to the missus Td4 recently have made it so much better to drive,
I didn't know any thing was really wrong in the first place.

First I changed the Pcv filter thing to the Bmw part a couple of weeks ago, the old bit was really clogged up and I noticed a difference straight away,

Secondly I cleaned out the Inlet manifold and egr earlier this week,
A messy job but I didn't take it for test drive afterwards cos the missus needed it,

I drove it for the first time this morning since cleaning the manifold out and it goes so much better, loads of power and not afraid to overtake in it anymore,

These are 2 reasonably easy jobs I would definitely advise anyone doing if you haven't already,

I was pleasantly surprised at how much of a difference that made too. :)

Seeing as how the EGR is now clean I hope you're going to make sure it stays clean.

Easiest / cheapest / quickest fix is to pull off the little braid pipe and shove a golf tee up it- so as to disable it. Then use a cable tie to fix it out of the way.

I eventually fitted an EGR by-pass to get maximum air-flow though the ducting.

Yup....... Well done mucka, these things will definatly help with performance.

My only advice would be to keep on top of them (not litteraly) Check every service.

Then you can :5bparty:

What's the PVC filter thing you changed?mines a bit ropey sometimes so had planned to clean the egr over the holidays, will do the manifold if it's not to tricky, used carb cleaner on mondeo and worked well but will change this filter thing while I'm at it,I'll do the braid pipe as well sv but will need to plug it back for mot?

Hi Mr Kaiser,

Do a quick search for pcv and you should get all the details you need for the BMW Oil Separator update which replaces the original cotton tampon job.

If you can't find the part number come back and I'LL FISH IT OUT FROM THE sINGVOGEL ARCHIVES FOR YOU (CRA*p theres the bloody capital lock again - my fingers are too big for this little lap-top)

It costs £23 from any BMW parts dept. - LR dealers don't stock it.

nice one sv,I've just had a quick look on e bay and there's one for £7 odd and the BMW one is £40odd I think,is it an easy part to change?I'm alright with nowt to technical but just have basic tools.cheers

I just looked on eBay too and saw this:
BMW E46 , E60 , E90 OIL SEPARATOR / BREATHER FILTER M47N , M47N2 320d 520d | eBay

You'll see exactly what it looks like - but the problem is this seller is in Latvia and it costs £19.99 plus £2.99 postage.

This is plain daft - you can walk into any BMW agent in the UK and get the 100% genuine article for a little over £23 inc VAT

Part Nr. B11 12 7 799 367

Easy enough to fit - you'll get full 'how to' details on here if you search - pcv

Actually the Ebay deal would be good for me as its a trip to either Lincoln or
Grimsby for me,about 40 mile round trip.

Might be worth it for the look on the faces of the BMW staff when I park me old VW transporter outside the showroom (it does more offroading than the Freelander) and do the long walk through the showroom in me muck,to the parts department.:)

That's true - for the sales staff - but the parts dept and service guys live in the real world - they are always very helpful, in my experience anyway.

I can even turn up in dirty old camo-kit and sit down on the leather chairs and have a cappachino while they fetch the part from the store. :D

You could try asking for trade discount - just keep away from the smart groomed guys in the shiny suits.
