Hi

I am thinking of buying a land rover for trials at the AWDC.
My dad currently has a land rover defender that is in good condition and he doesn’t want to do much off roading as he thinks the car will become damaged, so me and him our know looking for a new 4x4
We have set a budget of around £3000 max. And from what I have found and seen I think that I have two main choices of cars that I would like.
  • Range Rover Hybrid (cut down to 88inch)
  • Land Rover Defender

I just have a few questions about both the defender and range rover hybrid and if you were able to answer any of the questions It would be extremely useful to me and my dad.
    • Why do people only really change Classic Range Rover into Hybrids
(e.g because they have stronger differentials, transfer box’s. ……………)
    • Is a budget of £3000 too low for a prepped defender so that is ready for trialling
    • I am quite new to off road trialling and don’t have very much experience so would a diesel be better that a V8 for maintenance
    • Would anybody be able to give me an example of there hybrid range rover or defender and what problems they had and what price they got it for.

To show an example of what I might be looking for I have found these on ebay

Also if anyone else has any different ideas of cars that I could look at I would find it very useful

Sorry to ask you so many questions

Tom .
