I'm at just under 150k and on 2nd gearbox. Not bad for 22yr old and an L322

I think mine was late 80k when she went. Which is apparently 'the norm'.

Sealed for life gearboxes. Hmmmm. Change oil regularly was the answer one source gave me after my 3rd gearbox.

certainly on the P38, the ZF4HP22/24 boxes were claimed to be sealed for life. That was amended to change at I think 25K miles. I do mine usually at every third service.

15,000 miles or every ten years, whichever comes first as it gets older

We’re draining our box next week and replacing filters also.
Should we just drain or should it have a flush through?

No idea, I let the garage do mine! I know it's expensive oil according to them. some have to have the oil sucked out.

Just drain. If it has done a lot of miles since the last change, drain and refill a second time after a few hundred miles.

Try a mega-flush, you might be lucky. On mine it went at about that mileage and the rebuild went at about 140,000 in Belgium, in the middle of winter! The torque converter burnt itself out.

It's really odd symptoms so i don't know if it's just dirty oil, or valves/solenoids that are with
