Hi all. I am new to this forum, and i have just brought my first landrover, its a 1996 Discovery 300 Tdi and it seem to have a leak/leaks. The top carpets are dry, but the rubber matting in the two front footwells and boot are quite wet. I have dried them out and treated the few bits of surface rust. Any idears where the water could be coming from and what i could do to fix it?

FFS its a landy, there are so many panel gaps its a toss up whether they are there to let water in or out.
right, as V8 says do a search, there are many many reasons why youre lovely disco suddenly has a built in swimming pool

don't put the matting back in, it will just trap the water and rust quicker.

Drill more holes to let the water out!

That model year had problems with leaks around the windscreen rubbers and around the alpine lights in the rear roof . The fix was sealant from a mastic gun . Regards Jonathan

I agree with Jonathanp.... when i got mine the boot tray was held together by just the foam mat it had rusted to. so i replaced the boot tray. I have now removed all foams to let them dry out ... used clear sealant on every single panel gap, cracked window seal, and drill hole(the previous owner had light guards). Now its dry and hasnt leaked since i sealed everything up. I think im gonna paint the foams for a quick fix... they wont absorb water(if any gets in the car) but they will still have there sound resistant properties. Also check your sunroofs(if you have any) cos they are guaranteed to leak.

Thanks for all the replies. I have traced the water in the front foot wells to the door seals. I have ordered a new seal for the driver’s door, but the passenger side seems to be cured by adjusting the door, I will wait for the rain and see what happens. As for the back, I have sealed the alpine windows, all the cracks in the window rubbers and holes in the back floor, so now just a case of waiting and see if it stays dry. I checked both sunroofs and they are totally dry.
