OK, So I know of this old 300tdi Disco 1 amongst the family.

Engne and gearbox in reasonable knick.

It has failed the MOT on a multitude of minor issues, parts list is currently £110 for parts, but then it has also failed on the old red stuff..... rust.

Having stripped the inside. It is like this.

rusty boot. requires the outer edges ( boot floor and outer sections with holes) replacing
rusty rear wheel arches holes, require plating.
front seat belt mounts to chassis holes
both rear body mounts rusty / holes
front OS footwell holes
front OS body mount holes.
NS B post base holes.
Windscreen cracked but not in driver view.

What would you do with it? ant interesting ideas? current option is they have been offered £300 for it to take away.

Cheers

You've been around Discos long enough to know whether an MoT fail is repairable or even worth repairing.
As we've said in the past, most things are repairable especially if you throw enough money at the problem or you have the ability and facilities to shave a load off the bottom line yourself.
If it were mine, bearing in mind that I'm pretty good with the mechanicals and electricals but I would have to outsource any major welding work, I would cut my losses and unload it.

Yeah, I was hoping to weld it up. In facrt the failures on the MOT were a lot less than I found once i started tapping and digging.

but as we know , once you start cutting it just gets worse, Final straw was B post at the base . LOL.

The body / exterior and interior is not the best, run hard and out away wet , it you get my meaning.

But the chassis, I have to say is in a fantastic condition. If I knew of a cheap body kit then I would probably consider doing it for a bit of fun.

Well if you've time and space and the most important knowledge if it's family offer 200 quid and have something to do over the cold dark winter.

I remember seeing a long time ago the old IBEX .

I am starting to think after a couple of wee drams if they still exist? and if they do a disco based version.....?????

I remember seeing them at a 4x4 show in Wycombe 25 years ago.

Still like them, but I think they run a different chassis.

Will wait and see.

I look at the sahara and see all the impracticalities of what i already have.

I know the ibex can be a full body vehicle.

Will have to think about it.

And they are?

In the fender,

Only 2 seats.
Weather protection / Winter chill.
Secure carrying capacity.

But then I did turn it into a full tilt, So only myself to blame..:p

One of the reasons i also have the D2.

Got prices back from Ibex. Not too bad really, but the only carry over parts are the drivetrain. Which is a shame as the chassis is on such good knick.

Cheers

from your fail list, a lot of it can (possibly) be done from the top
welding isnt nearly as much of a chore when youre not on your back, with rust falling in your eyes

Yeah , true, But it is the inevitable, " OH , Look more rust" that I am going to find that puts me off starting it.

Before I found the front seat belt mounts , footwell and the B pillar then I was all for getting in there with the grinder and welder.

But it got to the point where it was just not viable in my opinion.

Cheers
