OK so its been a soggy winter and I havent had a lot of time to do much to the series 3, except rescue a drowning horse but thats a different story. BUT.... The bulkhead on the old girl is showing signs of being knackered, the passenger side vent under the windscreen, one hinge is still there but the metal supporting it isnt and I also have a small water leak into the drivers footwell. Not sure from where, I replaced the doors last autumn and noticed the drivers side of the bulkhead is quite rusty. So the big question is whats best to do, repair, got a welder and know how to use it but its been a while and how hard can it be?? or rip out the old bulkhead and replace with an already repaired one for £££££????? or a new one if available.

Any ideas or advice greatfully received.

If yer decide to weld it this place makes the repair section for one. YRM Metal Solutions - Online Shop or alternatively just keep your eyes out on ebay for a cheap series with a good bulkhead strip it and sell the rest of it back on ebay as spares.

Thanks for that, looks like the repair panels have a longer edge under the screen than those at paddocks but what are they like to fit?

What do you have to remove to make em fit???

Giz some pics. I'd go fer the replacement bulkhead if your thinking of keeping it.

On my td90 it was a Full dash out vent flaps off and windscreen off. Then it's a case of cutting the rotten section of bulkhead off and cutting the new section to fill the hole. You want to butt weld the new section in so it looks good and because the vent flaps won't fit in properly if you don't. I'd fit a small over lapping flap to the back of the bulkhead where the two halves meet to add some strength and to make it easier to weld it. You'd probably need to remove front wings and bonnet if the rot went down past the wingtops.

Not sure how far the rots goes probably all the way with my luck and as I havent had to have the wings off this one yet it looks like I am going to have to have a good look and decide before buying anything!

Thanks again

i'd repair it,i've just replaced both footwells, door pillars and bottom brackets on my series 3 and found it a challenging but enjoyable process,no way i'd give someone loads of money for a bulkhead when i could do it myself,it cost me £100 plus a reel of mig wire.

Well whatever you decide to do the wings will most probably have ter come orf . So yer might as well strip it all orf anyhows.
