Hi all, great forum:) i am the proud owner of a 1997 Discovery 300tdi es,over the last month or so it has developed this strange starting problem, when you turn it over it starts strait away and sometimes is fine, then other times you turn it over it starts strait away, then you let go of the key and it cuts out? the only way to keep it running is to keep it cranking and rev it up then it will stay running? i dont think the starter will last for much longer like this, this is an intermittent problem and ive had it into a local garage thats got all the latest diagnostic eqpt and he says it not showing any fault codes, has any one on here had this problem?? im getting desperate now as no-one seems to know what it is PLEASE HELP:confused:

I had a similar problem with a diesel toyota once, and I dont know much about LR diesels, but here was the problem with the tojo.

With the ignition on it pushed the lever on the fuel pump to the "run" position and sometimes the lever would go to "off" when cranking stoppped, other times it would stay in "run" like it was supposed to. It was a solenoid that wasnt doing as it was supposed to.

Yours sounds similar, but this may be of no use to you at all being a jap vehicle. Good luck.

Cheers outbackjack, will look into it but apparantley the fuel pump is "fly by wire" so the solonoid is not like a conventional one:confused:
