Hello, i have a very strange problem with my rear abs sensors, I usually consider my self quite good with these cars now but am completely flummoxed..

I got “permanent electrical failure” on both rears, swapped out with the cheaper wheel bearings went away for a month. Left rear failed, then right rear.

Replaced again, exact same again.

Thought it was because of cheap sensors, so got the suffix “g” sensors for nearly £300! They then failed in the same way..

Always the same, i get abs fault, it will reset and go alright for a day/hours, then fail on the left side, then fail on the right side.

The only potential issue is im using front bearings for the rear for the extra reach in abs sensor as im on a lift, but from all accounts that should be fine as others do it with no problem?

So how is my car seemingly killing abs sensors!?
 
Hi, unplug the sensors and measure theyr's resistance with multimeter ... they should be between 950 - 1100 Ohm, if they have it the problem is elswehere and we'll speak then if they are shot then the ECU is suspect so you'll have to replace it ... btw, what diagnostic tool you have?

I can do, but its 3 sets now 6 in total so even if its not reading correct i would say something is damaging them?

I use autocom, does most cars and everything on the d2 other than coding things, and was only £80!
 
And what if they are all good?, start with those already removed if you still have them.


Can you read live sensor inputs with it?...if yes do it and report the result
Good point, ive got the last set in the garage still..

Yes but it kicks me out of the slabs ecu after i go over like 10/11mph

So i just checked 3 hubs all of them are open circuit, but i just dont know why theyd work for a month then die

That's how it does for the speed input, check stationary voltage inputs if you can, they should be between 2 - 2,3V

remove the sensors and see if they are intact cos i've seen cases when they were damaged by the reluctor ring

it's possible that the ECU sends higher than 5v voltage in them intermittently... it's the only way to kill an ABS sensor electrically as long as it's phisically undamaged

So just checked the sensors on the old rings look ok, measured the voltage with the engine running on the car its 5v
 
I’ve ordered another slabs ecu, from what ive seen its just a case of making sure the options are set correctly for my vehicle, coils/airbags etc, no other coding?
generally yes, it should work once set for the vehicle's equipment.... if you have SLS you need height calibration
