Hi all.

Just thinking as my coolant is probably original, about Evans waterless coolant.
Do it once and forget forever. I like the sound of that.

Anyone got experience of this stuff??

Yeah get some and let us know how you get on. It'll only cost you around £165 to fill the system. Better get another gallon at around £65.00 just in case you have to change an hose or do any work cause you are bound to lose a bit. So you should be sorted for about £240.00. Rock on. :D:D
 
Well.
That is the point.
The system pressure would be considerably reduced and therefore reduce wear and possible pressure leaks in system.

I remember sat in full heat of a traffic jam with trailer and when I got to a services to give everything a rest the engine area was super hot.

somewhere in my memory I seam to remember the shark fins on the side of the L322 are there as a necessity on the V8 petrol in hot climates...

So. Back to my question anyone?

Interesting how it makes the engine run 3-10° hotter than standard coolants. Seems a waste without making sure the rest of the coolant system is as new otherwise the old weaknesses could still be present

I agree....my L322 (BMW 4.4) is a very low mileage example.
so thought it maybe worth it as preservation of condition??
 
In that case it can't do any harm- but is an expensive way of preservation. I'd probably just having the coolant changed more regularly. But I'm a tight arse.
 
From what i can gather the normal failure of the l322 alternator is because of wear and age of electronics. So I'm not convinced that the coolant would provide any additional life span to the alt in this case

Is this a super new liquid that doesn't expand when it gets hot? Every other liquid i know of does. It seems to me that this is just thin antifreeze as opposed to the concentrated stuff you let down with water. At £65.00 a gallon they can shove it where the sun don't shine.
 
The idea is it doesnt boil and form vapour so therefore doesn't lose its ability to cool. But if your cooling system is kept in good order theres no reason for failure to occur anyway barring a fault which could potentially occur whether using uber expensive stuff or just good old coolant

Providing the system is sealed normal water mixed coolant doesn't boil either. That is what the pressure cap is for, to raise the boiling point. Liquid expands as it heats that compresses the air in the system ( header tank) conversely the air in the header tank also expands when heated to pressurise the coolant and raise the boiling point. So the very idea that with this super coolant there will be no pressure in the system is ridiculous.
 
The gumf says that you can run the engine when at running with the coolant cap off. But my missus also told me she was on the pill nearly 8 years ago and now i have a 7 year old child- so i stopped believing anything I'm told :)
 
On a par with witch docters with a pointy stick IMO.

Yep just fill it with neat Ethylene Glycol, worked for Spitfires. Can't see this stuff being much more than (pardon the pun) watered down (less concentrated) version of normal antifreeze/coolant. Being sold at very inflated prices to the gullible.
