Now then

I have a potential of a major problem of water and oil in ecu and loom on a 2000 td5. Someone is looking at it to see what needs replacing, but if worst comes to worst where would I be best looking for replacments either new, second hand, re-conditioned...?

Also any bright ideas on how to stop this in future??

Cheers

how much water in ecu? the oil in the ecu comes along the wires from the injectors you just need to clean ecu plug off and to change injector harness as for the water how much is in there try unplugging it and leaving it in house to dry oout and retry does it start?

Like landy 3.9V8 says, Oil contamination in the injector loom is a common fault and the new injector loom is only about £40. If it has water in there too I would check the grommets in the seat box are properly fitted. I haven't siliconed mine up and have nevr got water in there yet and I do go wading a fair bit.

ecu light came on a couple of times when driving so limped back to a mates house. Wouldnt start after that, but after being left for a few hours it started no pronblem, stopped it and it wouldnt start again.

Its not as if the ecu is underwater but it is wet. Havnt got it with me but will try leaving indoors for a bit.
If worst comes to worst, do you know where i could get a replacement or even an upgrade for a reasonable price?

Cheers

unfortunatly I only found out this fault the hard way, otherwise I would have done something about it!

Have you been wading with it? How deep did you go? the throttle potentiometer (pedal assembly) is also vulnerable to water when wading.

Fingers crossed it will dry out. Depending on how wet it is you may need to gently pry the top off the ecu to allow it to dry without condensation constantly dripping back onto the circuitboard. It is held together with sealer.

id just replace the injector harness and also clean the ecu plugs that go into the ecu wiht a cloth then just leave ecu indoors by radiatior somewere and see how it goes and do wat ratty said seal the holes in seat box up

cheers ratty and landy 3.9, will try what you both said.

Actually not been wading (well deep anyway!) as I need it for work and can't afford breakdowns or bent things if I can help it! might get a old un for that soon!

i work for guy salmon landrover if you dont or crnt afford a harness you might get away with just cleaning ecu plug every so often and just have a go at drying ecu out cus there expensive :p

I have a similar problem with mine, but it did involve a little too much water! It got in from the top of the seat box when I was stuck in some water which was a bit too deep. Fortunately the door seals are pretty good as it was up to the windows!

You need to make sure you dry it out properly as the circuit board will start to rust and give you problems later...

Also, with mine, I seem to have lost power? It's been tuned and all that, and used to pull on the motorway at 80+mph, but now doesn't do more than about 75 with the foot flat. Could something have reset in there? I've tried unplugging and replugging it in but no joy...

Thanks for your responses, its all better now!

yeah was in local dealer.

Injector harness was shot, so got that replaced for not a lot. ecu didnt show any faults on diagnostic machine and luckally is ok, execpt the genius there found a break on a wire in it, but bypassed it. It was the inertia switch for fuel pump cut off in case of accident. we both decided i dont need that! Just a case of making sure it stops dry now. hmmm silicone time...

Also found rocker gasket was knackered and fuel regulator shot....!

YORKSHIRE STEVE - Not sure about loosing power, maybe just get in touch with whoever tuned it and speak to them?

show off, always wanted a v8. 2000 (w reg). Thinking about looking for something a bit newer with less miles soon. might have to look at 110 as work is expanding so need room in back. seen some good ex-utilities with roller shutters etc but just a bit dubious 'how well' they have been looked after .what reg your two?
