I keep getting water in the rear compartment where the Jack lives and don't know why ? any ideas anyone ?

Its part of the character of the Freelander, its so the warrant (MOT) man every 6 months can say to you - "Do you know you've got water in the box in the boot".

It has been through here lots of times - and at some point I should really gen up on fixing it !

On mine, water was seeping in from underneath the join of the middle bit of trim and the offside side panel (hinge side)...I took the middle bit off and put an elastic band over the lip of the side panel, bolted the middle bit back down over the band and the locker has been dry up to now.

1/4" (6.5mm), so it allows water out, but is less likely to get blocked. Also remember once hole drilled, to put shaft of drill bit thru hole and push drill towards front of car, to deform the hole. This deforms the hole to reduce the chance of water ingress from below.

Not so slap dash?

Got a bit of toilet roll wedged in mine at the point the water comes in which I change according to rainfall !! Not to keen on the hole fix because although it does drain the fish tank, the water travels through about two feet of foam to get there so although the tank is empty the foam is always wet.

Proper slapdash but very dry!!!

Usual answer is to drill a hole in the bottom of it.

:p

A previous owner drilled a hole in mine and cut around the top of the boot locker carpet to do so

So I cut it off altogether ....put some strips of polystyrene 1/4 inch thick down leaving a channel for the water to run along the bottom and out through the hole, lined it with a sheet of plastic (on top of the polystyrene of course), cut 1/4 inch from around the top of the carpet so it would fit back in... hey presto the biggest bodge on LZ :D:) ....then I saw where it was coming in and did the laggy band trick :brushteeth:

I'm liking the sound of this but not too sure where you're putting the elastic band. Way I see it, it's costing me about 40p a year to keep my boot dry, if I knew where you were putting the elastic band I could save myself a fortune. Plus I have an elastic band doing nothing, so it's a win - win situation for me.

Its exactly where your loo paper is :D

At that join ;)

Take off the middle trim (torx bolts) and you will see the lip where the middle bit fits down onto the side panel ...stretch a wide laggy band over the lip to form a seal then replace the middle bit on to it and bolt down ;)

Yes I know to what you refer!! Taking the trim up later this week to run a wire so will give it a go. Cheers. :)
