I've just joined this site so 1/ Hello and 2/ can you help.

I've got a defender 90 TD5. I,ve noticed that the felt matting in the footwells is constantly wet. Not a bit wet but soaking. I've lifted the matting on the bulkhead behind the pedals and thats just as soaking.

I can't work out if the water is getting under the door, through the floor or through the bulkhead.

I do jet wash the underside when I've been in the mud.

I had a similar problem in the back when I first got my 90 so I lifted the carpet and used seam sealer which cured the problem.

Anyone know how to cure this one?

1. cowl vents, check by placing paper there, shut vents, after heavy rain, wet = leaking, change seal or silicon the damn thing up if you don't open it.

2. the corner when the winshield bolts to the bulk head, 4 nuts there do let in water

3. the top front edge of the door, that were it leaks, flows down and appears on the floor

4. between the windshield washer jet and bulk head

5. rubber strip when windshield a-frame sits on bulk head

6. pedal boxes

7. rubber booting where the wires enter the bulkhead going to the instrument panel

ok, hope you can find it.

That is the very comprehensive list to try!

From my own experience (and having had the whole dash out eventually 'cos I was determined to find the hole), the vent seals were to blame. That's quite an easy one to start with and hopefully it'll fix your problem.

i Have an early 90 with sliding windows, tonight it apears water was coming in all over them and it wasnt even raining hard, always go out in the morning and there are 2 puddles in the footwells is this common with the slidey windows or do i just have a duff set?
