IF you breakdown in Columbia SC be wary of Columbia Land Rover/Jaguar technician issue (see my previous thread/post). Even after contacting the "service rep Jim" I have not heard back from the dealership. An apology would have been NICE, a letter, call,etc. but NOT A PEEP! There is no way the fees for repair through dealerships, and they are HEFTY, should have been able to determine the issue of an ECM or BCM failure, or a BAD STARTER. After having to drive back up there, get a car hauler, bring it back to Fla and take the vehicle to our local mechanic, WHO REPLACED THE STARTER THE SAME DAY IT WAS DROPPED OFF. PS: The dealership advised that they couldn't find a replacement ECM (because they are not able to install a "rebuilt or reman", even though the part was discontinued)...the original cost "they" quoted was 2500.00 because of their "tech's" advice.
 
Some introduction as to who what where [approx] you are and what you drive would be nice.
However this section of the forum is for Series vehicles that do not [ and never will] have an ECM or BCM
 
To be fair to the first lot who looked at it, just because the diagnostics say 'dead starter' it doesn't necessarily mean the starter's got something wrong with it. The fault can be inside the ECU or anywhere between it and the starter. and possibly past it. If changing the starter fixed it you (and the mech) were lucky because as @kevstar mentioned, there's a whole world of pain awaiting if it isn't.

Told ye to bridge the starter motor first time you were on here, that would have saved you all the hassle plus it was free advice
& you never came back until now.
 
Wtf is an LR2? Freelander, Discovery, Range Rover, Defender? It cant be a series because they dont have fancy electronic bits on them.
 
That's the obvious solution. Sell the coil sprung electronic ridden consumer product and buy a Landrover. If it doesn't have leaf springs, stay away......
That’s a little harsh, cart spring models may be superior. I would say as long as it has a ladder chassis and ali body panels then it is likely to be passable.

I disagree. Most coil sprung things have all sorts of useless stuff. I've even seen then with wind up windows! Can you imagine? Next it will be electronic controlled engines and, boom, short life consumer product with touch screen operated indicators.
