Hi all
Does any one know wihch is the best way of replacing the rear chassis vin plate next to the fule filtter on the chassis rail, as i am intending to take the car to spain and register it there later this year.
has any one been down this road ?

First I would have to ask why?
But am guessing the numbers don’t match your paperwork. Which of course then brings up many questions as to why they don’t match?
I am not aware of where exactly chassis/VIN numbers are on a disco but would also think there is 1 stamped in chassis too.
Trying to change a vehicles identity is usually thought of as dodgy.

If the mismatch is genuine then why not get the paperwork changed?
I don’t know the laws regarding registration in Spain but if it’s anything like here then all numbers have to be present and correct and match paperwork or it’s a no go.

Hi
No i have all the documentation and all is fine, but i have put on a half chassis on as the old one was so rotton,and need to put back the chassis number but i dont know the font that was used by land rover used,all i have left is the rivetts where it was i still have the old chassis with no stamp marks so it must have been on a thin plate

Ok.
I wouldn’t have thought it was only on the plate.
Am pretty sure it should be stamped. But as I have never owned a disco I can’t help with location.
I will say they are often not easy to find, but if you did find it stamped it’s probably going to be the wrong number, if I understand it you think you have replaced the section with the number. Which could then make things really difficult.

I can only suggest clean up the area really well see what you can find.
Also what disco is it ? because I believe they might have changed where they stamp them.
Hopefully a knowledgeable disco owner will be along soon to help.

Rear chassis near to the fuel filter is a D2.? It is originally stamped not riveted. I do not know the rules in Spain but in hungary you have to take the car to a special MOT where they check if everithing is right ( for example the car is not stolen) and the lack of stamped vin is only missing because of repair (changed the rotten part) and they give a new chassis number which will be official but different than the original one.

I replaced the rear section on our TD5 & was also wondering what to do about the VIN no. that I'd "lost"
As said earlier, it's not on a plate, it was marked into the leg by something like a computer controlled centre punch. I 'd taken a photo ours before I cut off that bit of the chassis.
I couldn't find an exact font / typeface match - but found something very close & created a paper stencil I taped onto the chassis leg in the correct position & then centre punched through it to mark the chassis.
For info, the letters are very large - so you can't just use letter / number punches. The force required would be enormous & it wouldn't look anything like the original markings.

If it's like here in Portugal make sure you have an export cert and I would suggest a good local agent...if it's RHD you'll need to sort lights incl rear fog and reverse if in wrong position...
