Hi

I have a 90 DTi which has just started to vibrated when I reach around 45 mph, there is no vibration when I drive at 40 mph or less. There has also been a squeaking noise for the last couple of days which I put down to a loose alternator belt because it only happens when I use the accelerator could this be part of the problem?

Any help would be much appreciated with a diagnosis?

Thank you

Alan

check your propshafts. esp the universal joints. the bearings may have packed in. check all suspension and steering components for loose/bent or broken parts. make sure your tires are wearing evenly and you may want to get the wheels balanced.

dont know sqot about drivebelts and alternators but i didnt think the acceleration would cause it to spin faster. i just thought it turned over with the engine speed which remained constant.

Yes it could be a drivebelt - if it is then it will still do it when the car is stationary. If the noise varies with road speed in any gear instead of with engine speed while stationary then its not a drivebelt. A drivebelt won't cause the sort of vibration you're talking about.

As Griff says, if it's not a belt, check the props.

UJs on propshafts. check them thoroughly. i had almost the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago. also make sure the handbrake is off when you are checking the rear propshaft.
