Hi, I've got a 1997 300tdi defender 90 and I've got a very intermittent starting problem. Turn the key all the electrics come on and then go to start the engine and nothing. (No ticking from the starter motor or anything)

The problem is with it being so intermittent It never has an issue when I look into it. Seems to be worst when I drive to a shop for 10 mins and then go to start it up

It's definitely not an earthing issue to the engine as I've tried running a jump lead from the battery, to the engine but had no luck

Any helps greatly appreciate

If you look up " intermittent start " in the search function and check out those for 200/300 tdi's it may well help but the first thing to check/clean is the little spade connecter on the ignition wire at the starter solenoid.

The above was my issue. Cleaned the spade. fitted a new connector, never had an issue afterwards ...

As above! I had exactly the same issue. I changed the power cable from the battery to the starter motor and then the starter motor itself. Local garage recommended that I spray some contact cleaner into the spade connector - sorted it out for a few months then came back. Changed the spade connector (like I should have done at the beginning) and been fine since - just jinxed myself!

Ive had the spade connector problem , but also the power lead from the solenoid to the motor itself wohas worked itself loose.. just.. so it went intermittent..
