Is there a way to trace the production history of a vehicle? In more detail than is described by the VIN.

Mines a 1991 defender so one of the first ones made.

I’d be interested in what no. Off the production line it was, date it was made, basically an nice tit bits of history really.

Could try a v888 form the dvla & search for previous owners think hard about an excuse for them
to grant it. No vehicle service history or paper work might be a good shout.

The VIN can be deciphered to show the basic spec of the vehicle. I think James Taylor wrote a book with a breakdown of the VIN numbers and what they mean in terms of vehicle spec.

I've got that, there's a website and you can enter the vin and will give those details but after a bit more juicy info on its production.

Sign up to jlr topix online. But it may be too old for the system recorts. Main dealers can supply original build info.
