Well another first for me, I was in the supermarket tonight, and I saw the vegatable oil was £2.70 for 3 ltrs, 90p per Ltr compared to £1.44 for DERV so i did it 24Ltrs of Veg oil in the tank topped up with DERV, so I will see how it runs over the next couple of days and get back to you. :clap2:

It'll be ok, maybe not start as quick in a mornin, two turns of engine instead of half a one, but it'll be ok :)

Buy a replacement fuel filter or two .. change first one after the first tankfull, change second one for new after another few tankfulls ... the veg oil cleans the system up no end and soon blocks the filter!

Oh dear now im worried about it starting, she has a 2.5 N/A engine in her but she's not bad at starting but she's not a 200tdi lol

oh well I have a 5.30 start in the morning or not as the case may be lol,
battery is a good one and glow plugs all work i think

Oh well so much for cheaper fuel, my landy didn't want to start this morning in the frost, is it the fuel, battery or glow plugs I will check them all out and let you know :-(

If you are running 100% oil,it's most likely that's it, mine did the same. The oil turns into thick sludge when cold and the pump just can't shift it. So it needs to be thinned down, diesel or petrol.

No I was running 50/50 but im thinking this could be too thick still for up here lol
I have also checked the glow plugs they were ok, but the battery didnt seem up to much so a new one is getting fitted tonight the battery is only a year old.
see what happens tomorrow morning.

get the biggest cca you can afford........... 1000cca if you can

my 2.5n/a's been running sweet with a 50/50 mix of derv and oil, my 300tdi used to struggle with it though, went through a fair few fuel filters and a new lift pump was needed to help get the oil flowing, invest in a heater of some kind, like a fuel filter heater off another car or a water/fuel heat exchanger, then its just a case of getting her started

I think it sounds like it runs slightly rougher on the 50/50 mix and I had to increase the idle speed as it was running alot slower, but on the other side when I was driving it through town tonight, it didnt seem to giving any smoke when i stuck the pedal to the metal,:fencing:

it will be intresting to hear how it goes for me mate, i am contemplating running my next project on a veg oil / derv mix.
good luck..
