Can you advise me if this is correct, stripping down a landrover 90 2.25 petrol engine to refurbish it, on stripping down the cylinder head and removing valve springs I found the valve springs have a smaller spring inside the larger spring, can any one advise me if this is a standard or has this head been upgraded.

will bow to your greater knowledge sean so am i not going completely senile and they did up it to 2.5? (cant remember where i heard it )

They fit double valve-springs because by doing so they can achieve spring strength and the depth of movement capability using thinner wire coils than using a single coil spring. This means that the valve springs are much less liable to break, and the valve stem can be designed to be shorter.

A broken valve spring can become a big disaster if a bust spring allows a valve to let the collets loose, because the whole valve can drop right into the cylinder just as the engine is stopping. OUCH!

The valve train of 4-cylinder Landy engines is well designed, and very robust.
