how much would th landy experts out there value the following

1997 300tdi county hardtop (defender) with rear sliding window conversion.

130000 on th clock, solid engine, solid chassis, no rust holes, jus the odd rusty surface. Good interior conditon, good headlining etc. AT colway tyres (retreads). metalic biarritz blue, in good condition (the odd nick in th paint work, the odd rough spot).Good Straight Panels all around, doors in good nick, rear door would need replacing eventually (as is only part worst affected by rust), and second gear crunches (so whats new) so double clutchin or jus slow changes is needed!
no real service history, but no evidence of a hard life or poor maintance.
diff lock and low/high range work fine
so any estimates out there before I make an offer would be really useful from the people in the know!

Bout 5 or so? There's one like this for sle on Ebay in Newquay for £5.5 - although you might get detter!

What's the chassis like?

Round here, that would fetch £3 - £3.5k.
Maybe £4k with Tax & MOT.

looks like I should be looking where you guys are lookin!for that kinda money (3-5k), autotrader etc you'd generally be gettin a 200 first off in not a great nick, and with a shoody chassis!!

Autotrader is ok but most of the adverts are trader ads and the private buyer who advertise there see their prices and think they can ask the same amount too. There is a difference between asking £XXX and getting £XXX. There is a 90 forsale on LRUK and the guy asked the same question there I told him £2500 was too much and he'd struggle to sell it, everyone had a rant about it been a fair price and what did I know 2 months later he's still bumping the thread to try and sell it and he still hasn't had any offers.

ah tis true red!on my landy i know I paid over the odds cos around here I couldnt get what I wanted at a better price so ended up payin bit over the top for piece of mind from a dealer I trusted and for exactly what I wanted.supply and demand 101!

So is the one you're planning on buying (the 300) from a dealer too then or a private sale?

i too would have said 4.5-5.5k sounds similar to what im after, any down your way tre? i will be down early april :D

tis from a dealer. no vat added, price 6.5k. feels a bit steep to me.mayb 6k is a fairer price.

taken it for a test, drives real nice, did a bit of greenlaning, tested diff lock, low range, all worked solid, no problems. had a total re spray same colour, not a great finish, like I said bit patchy, scrubby in a couple places but pretty good for a metallic finish and considerin a) its a landy and b) its 11 yrs old and c) its a landy.

i'd be willing to pay a bit more than normal for a good chassis as that can b a grand to spend if its rotten, same with the bulkheads. It all looks neat and pretty much rust free.

ya can do a search on autotrader and find one for a grand chaper but it'l b 300 miles away, and th cost to go have a look, take days off work etc prob will come close to makin up th diference anyway!plus this one IS from a dealer I trust AND it comes with 6months warranty which is a lil piece o mind.

I don't quite get this Edbell, you HAVE a 1997 hard top 300 tdi which you recently got for 6 and a half - why are you planning on making an offer on another....or are you telling us a little porky and actually want us to massage your ego by telling you that you weren't had on the one you got?

i would say 5.5k to be honest, 6 seems a lil steep too, esp given the non-factory paintjob and 130k. i know what you mean about 300miles away! all the ones in my price range and nice looking are in the north or scotland!

ah no this one is for me ol man. He's fallen in love with the one I got (which I think was overpriced). So he's tempted to get one from th same dealer/mechanics that did mine, they pretty much build what ever ya want, like with mine which was a hardtop, but I wanted windows so BAM they put windows. Its pretty much exactly same as mine, apart from its got the white wheels (mine has th freestyle alloys?) and A bar.

Thas cos yu sufferreners are tight gits and want top whack fur everything ya sell. where as us norfenners we're honest and fair about **** like that, an as long as we get a reasonable price weer appy.

Funny that, sounds identical to yours right down to the Biarritz blue and the very precise crunch going into second!

At least he can walk away, or get the dealer to repair the knackered gearbox under warranty - which is of course why it's so priced, and not a private sale.

Personally i think you're talking about yours!
