hi all, any suggestions on an alternative to the engine mounted vacuumpump
on the 300tdi.this is the only 4x4 i have seen like this , all others are alternator driven.i have replaced mine and it lasted just out of warrenty,a wabco unit, i think it has to do with oil from the crank case getting in and stuffing the rubber parts, there isn't a lot of space between alternator and
turbo to fit a donor unit.

regards

I have heard of people fitting rice-burner alternators with integral vacuum pumps but can't say I know exactly which one they used.

I can think of several 300tdi's with the original vacuum pump, lasting over 10 years each. If yours is just lasting a year, then either you got a bad pattern part, or there is something else wrong that is causing them to fail early.
