After more fustration,i decided to call it a f---k k,kick the wheel and slam the bonet, went home paced up and down for about an hr. Then looked on the internt made a few phone calles and referd to this forum and got the bug
So i went back to it gave it a funny look, then PULLED THE RETURN FUEL HOSES OFF turned the key up it ran on the button i adjusted the screws flicked the throttle and it sang to me:D :D :D held it on half throttle ran fine.
Then drove it up the road and back no probs.

Thanks for giving me the motivation back landy lovers;)

My next question is,what would have caused it? Im guessing its blocked
but ive blown down the pipe and it made a funny gurgle and didnt seem that blocked?strange

Im going to replace it with new but are there any other ideas out there?

Float needles may have been stuck ?

If i push them back on its back to square one. so something is a miss.:(
The fuel return pipes should just be a drain off and end up down in the engine bay somewhere.
The pipes arn't going to the crank breathers by mistake are they?
The big pipe off the carb (highest up ) should be the crankcase breathers, next lowest is the overflow from the floatbowl and the lowest one is the fuel supply from the pump.
I'm assuming that the carbs are HIF's with the floatbowls underneath.

The return pipe go to the tank, bearing in mind it was a diesel
And the carbs are su fzx1316

Ive tripple checked all the pipes and everything is present and corect
If ever it dose have a problem with the fuel system and it needed to run off would it not be a fire hazard? im not really that up on that side of the v8 knowledge.

Its my first. GULP

Carbs were originally fitted to a 1979 Rover V8 SD1 and they are indeed HIF6 which is inch and three quarter.
The overflows should be vented to atmostphere and not back to the tank as this may cause pressure problems.
I would drop the overflows down to chassis level and if they flood then they can drain off under the car.

Dont forget that those carbs would have had needles suited to a 3.5 and may be under fueling the 3.9 if they havn't been changed.
The needles will have worn a bit and that may give you enough fuel, just trial and error really.
Glad you got it sorted, you can listen to that gorgeous soundtrack the V8 produces any time you like now..:D
