Get an efi, 190 straight out of the bag.
Wallet emptying Webers ehU'll be lucky to get that mate. 3.5 efi was 160 outta the factory so now gonna be bout 130-140 i would have thought. Even a good 3.9 efi will be nowhere near its 180bhp.
an old 3.5 on carbs (depending on what carbs will make a huge difference), considering they were supposed to be 130bhp when new probably not much more than that unless u have a weber.
They really are not as powerful as people make out!

small block chevy are extremely fast and very very reliable and they dont cost as much as you think they are £2000 should buy you a good oneWas thinking of 3.5 efi out of a sd1 vitesse 190 bhp 220 lbft in the last 1986 cars. Or try a small block chevy, if you have an understanding wife/bank manager
Got a 7.2 lite V8 (440cu) in the shed but cant get a gearbox for it and I think there is a small crack in the base of the block but it was running recently. Should be good for 380bhp I thinkThere's an LT1 350ci sbc for a camaro on ebay for £250 at the moment - 5.7l, injection, ali heads, good for 275 out of the factory with 350+ ft lbs torque. You can convert 'em to carb easily but a lot of people plumb em in with the original ecm. You can buy a complete LSI with tranny for $2000 if you look in the right places too and that's a serious lump!

Can be welded yup, but need a flywheel as it was auto and a gearbox so a bit out of my league as far as expense goes I'm afraid. may make a coffee table out of it and lift it in the house with a hoist.can it be welded?
i thought you could put just about any engine and box together with a conversion plate/bell housing
