Hi all, I joined this site a long while ago but havent used it much as I have spent too much time trying to work things out for myself. I have now hit a brick wall where my knowledge is concerned. My 86 110 V8 is refusing to run properly after I decide to carry out a some preventative maintenance by replacing the fixed points and dissy cap. The timing is all over the shop - I have set the points gap (several times), checked the firing order, and static and dynamically timed the ignition. After finally getting a break through today I now find that it runs fine for about 15mins then like a bag of bones after it has warmed up. There is no sign of overheating or head gasket going.

Any ideas?

All, I have now solved the problem and engine running sweet as a nut. It was the dreaded dwellangle that was at fault. Despite measuring the gap betwen the points with a set of feeler guages it appears the dwell was way out. This cause the uneven running and misfiring I have been experiencing since installing the new points.

I bought a Automotive Multimeter from Maplins for £26 which has digital rpm and dwell measurement. It took only 10mins to sort everything once hooked up. Best £26 I've spent in ages.

Replacement LT95 G/B on its way soon so I'll have lots more fun fitting that.

Hope somone finds this experience useful.

:)
