Just bought a V8 '95 Disco, 3.9. I noted it had a slight knocking sound , which appears to be from top area of engine. It goes when revs increase above say 1200 to 1500 rpm, engine is quiet otherwise. I have heard that LR V8's can get cam knock due to some slack in positioning of the cam and LR issued tech note on this. Anyone had this and if so how do you fix it? What happens if you dont!!

before you assume the cam and other internals .try and oil & filter change. it wouldnt hurt to try.

Before assuming the cam or any other internal, check the exhaust system - check the cats haven't broken up and check the pipe isn't hitting something.

I had that problem, thought it was a liner knock at first as it only did it when warm:eek:

Was underneath with eng running at it seemed worse (o/s) , got a new twin cat down pipe, knock gone:D

mine made a knocking noise when i got it, one of the cats was dead, had to replace both as its on a Y pipe, im gutted i bought cheap (half price) ones of ebay, they weigh abought half the weight of the originals (thin metal) and now the engine noise is louder and resonates throught them much more noticably than the originals, morale of the tale:- you pay for what you get.
