Hi guys

iv got my 1st v8 (3.9 efi) had it for about 6 month with various issues, but slowly getting there.

When I 1st got her she needed the head gasket doing so did the whole caboodle skim composite gaskets etc and she's been running fine for the last 4 months or so.

use lately (last 3/4 days) after stopping iv noticed she's been hissing and spitting quite abit.

Upon inspection the pipe coming fro the left of my rad (facing it front on) has a "Y" piece 1 splits to header other to engine block (from memory) and its this y piece that seems to keep leaking or giving up under pressure.

Now from reading various threads on various sites im getting a mix match of info, with the engine being from a 1992 disco should it have a pressurised header tank (black one with a pressure top) or a non pressurised one.

Also does any body know if a 2/300tdi rad is going to be enough to keep the old girl cool as from doing some digging around I think that this is what RAD is fitted rather than a v8 (no idea why)

She's only got the viscous fan to cool her I will be fitting electric this weekend.

sorry to ramble on abit, il summarise

1 - should it have a pressurised header tank (black one with a pressure top) or a non pressurised one white I believe.
2 - will a 2/300tdi rad be enough to keep the old girl cool
3 - also is there any diagrams that show the flow direction in which water should pass (or can somebody knock up a quick diag so I can check its all routed the right way)

what is your engine number?

200/300 tdi rad won't fill the front since the intercooler sits next to it.

I would keep the viscous fan on it

unsure of the engine number off hand, i know its different to v5 even though its same engine as the block was replaced apparently a few years ago (not by me)

how do you mean wont fill the front?

i dont think theres enough clearence for fans and viscous.

thanks for the RAVE link never heard of them before but could come in handy

both systems are pressurised as all cooling systems ,a good viscous fan is best for engine as cools as needed not sudden like electric check rad is hot all over core, poor rad is big cause of overheating, check system is completely full header tank level is no indicator of engine level,3.9s are as prone to cracked blocks as much as p38s,especially non serpentine belt ones as later serpentine belt had improved water pump to feed equally both banks, earlier engine drivers side got biggest flow and passenger side cracked usualy ,obviously not all engines

I have a couple of brand new radiators for RRC V8 layout.
If one is any good for your Disco V8, they have a few knocks from storage but you're welcome to one for £30
(I can't justify having two spare!!)

issues sorted, it was a dodgy connection to the radiator i was loosing pressure and water from this...new pipe, new clip and job solved...now got mondeo fans running behind the rad and she keeps lovely and cool.
