My 2004 V8 l322 is rattling on start up and believe it is the cats, I have got decat pipes for it but I would like more V8 sound to come from the exhaust without going crazy and buying a full system, I did see a seller on Ebay a while ago who did pipes with small built in silencers and you cut the big box out and welded these ones on but I cant find him now. Has anyone made any mods to their exhaust system to get a better sound.

I have that very same fella on my ebay list he makes a nice set of stainless rear pipes with or without the silences. Better to have the silence type.
He currently doesn't have any in stock for the L322 but will let me know when he has.

Start up rattle will be vanos. Remove the vanos valves/solinoids clean out with lots of brake cleaner and I mean lots fill with 5w50 oil and refit while your in there do an oil and filter change.
If problems continue suspect poss chain guides on there way out but they usually cause a constant and loud slap.

It is illegal to remove cats fitted as standard. Its about time it was made illegal to supple decat equipement.
I agree. Cats are meant to reduce harmful emissions and Rangerovers chuck out quite a bit compared to the average family hatchback. It's very irresponsible to purposely cause pollution.

I was told it was the cats but you may well be right guys on the vanos solenoids I will check that first and if it is that solves that problem. Discool you are correct we do not have a MOT on the island unless you import a vehicle over and if it is over three years old it has to go through a government test or you have not taxed your vehicle for two years it then requires a test. Biketeacherdave could you please let me know that guys ebay name as he has vanished from my watch list. Thanks for the help everyone.

I totally agree as I thought that as well, I probably would not have said that 30 years ago though when noise was everything.
