Hi All,

Not sure if i am asking in the right area, but have to start somewhere and here seemed like the obvious choice. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

I have just purchsed an SIII SWB with an early RR V8 squeezed into it.
Problem is, the drivers side standard SIII chassis mount has a piece of angle iron welded to it and then connected to the un-modified V8 engine mount bracket, the other side has a butchered engine mount bracket with a piece of flat bar welded to it that connects to the standard SIII chassis mount if that all makes sense.

My question is there a standard LR engine mount that will fit the V8 (circa 1970-84) and connect straight to the SIII. If not, can you buy the modified inter-connecting brackets as I'm sure there would be a market. Or does anyone have the dimmensions or drawings to make them up that I can get engineer approved/complianced.
Reason for this is the existing ones are rubbish and probably wouldn't pass any compliance. Also the engine is quite a long way back and the previous owner has removed a considerable chunk of firewall to get everything in.

Even thought the engine has enough room to move forward at least 50mm.

I have a SIII restored chassis sat next to the V8 uncompleted project just described. My intention is to build a better SIII SWB V8 with the good chassis and as yet unmodified spare firewall. This would be a good time to get it right, before I put it back together.

Not sure which gearbox I have, as I haven't seen any identification anywhere, but does have a Lake Adaptor plate which I can clearly see in the big gaping hole in firewall for which it protrudes, and a Fairey Overdrive.

Thanks in advance

Mine sits on the original mounts on the chassis but the brackets on the engine are not standard V8 ones, i bought them years ago as part of the conversion kit. If i get chance i'll take a few pics tomorrow if you want.
If you don't modify the bulkhead it will be a very very tight fit to get the engine in and if you need to take the heads off you wont be able to without taking the engine out because the head bolts at the rear hit the bulkhead before they unscrew.

Thanks V8Jon, photos always speak a 1000 words.
The restored chassis has front of chassis modified for radiator to move forward about 100mm, not my doing so trying to get my head around its implications.
Hopefully I can move the motor forward enough, although the front cross member will probably need moving forward, ans possibly new gearbox mounts. Its measuring everything in 3D that will be the challenge

Most V8 conversion kits came with engine mounts so maybe try Steve Parker so similar. You never know they might sell you some - I made up my own.

The only mod you need to make to the bulkhead is the passenger footwell as this hits the exhaust manifolds. I made mine removable so I could get to the spark plugs easily

Couple of pics of my engine mounts, luckily I've still got the wings off, they look pretty straight forward to make, some angle iron and a flat plate with a kink in it welded on :D

Forgot to mention, the other side is exactly the same design but the oposite way (lefthand/righthand)
