Guys,

I have a Range P38 V8 4.0 lt.... big suprise it has an oil leak!!! Its nothing major but want to get it sorted.... I have checked to see if anyone has posted before on this but, not the same leak!!!
At first the leak appeared to be coming from the the sump but from what I can see now could be maybe a bit higher?!! Could it be possibly the crank seals?! Its certainly not as high as high as the heads as I have had it up on a ramp... I have cleaned the area off once with brake cleaner but its still not clear?!!!! ArrrrrrAH !!!!!:eek:
Anyone know of the common areas that leak on these and what is is more likely to be please?!!!!:doh:

Thanks !!

Try nipping up the sump bolts first but don't go mad.

Also de-grease the engine so you can see what's what. you don't say if you think the leak is front, back or on the side - give us a clue!

It looks like it may be the front and back actually Kev?!!
As I said it appears to be higher than the sump.... I did degrease the area with some brake cleaner but still can@t see where its coming from?!!!:doh:

The ali sump has cast ribs, the steel one is smooth.

There is a torque figure for the sump bolts, so don't go mad with the spanners, it's 16lb ft from memory.

Thanks Peter I'll give it a whirl!!!
Im guessing that If the leak is from a touch higher it could well be the front crank seal? and if its leaking front and back that could possibly be the crank seal main.... Which of course would mean either the box or engine to be taken out to replace the seal?!!!

Thanks,

T.

Guys, I have found the leak to be the crank seal main!!!!! Any ideas how hard/ easy it is to replace the crank seal main?!!!!!!.....
