Hello, Getting around 250miles per tank of petrol in my V6 2.5 and thats taking it easy. Should I be getting more?

Actually yes that did help thanks. I atleast know that it's not a vehicle specific problem. Just need a fuel pump outside my house. I should have stuck with the TD4.

Yeah, I knew it would be bad but thought I would get atleast 350 from a tank. I would have kept the TD4 if it wasnt riddled with problems, when water started coming through the roof it was time to change. (Not through sunroof or hardback either...seeping through roof bar sockets)

200-250 miles is shocking, wont be telling the missus or she will want it gone.

I am amazed - what makes you think you would get 30mpg from a kv6? it is only rated at circa 18mpg, which I was getting consistently?
You have bought another hippoo which is susceptable to similar probs as the td4, but is also prone to hgf!

mad, absolutely mad

Hang on, hang on - The wife is a pain in the arse, but she looks good and brings me pleasure...

Same principle applies, I love the damn things...

I did think the V6 had a larger tank, which it does but only by a smidge. It was a swapper actually, I complained so much to the dealership for the numerous visits back to the garage with the TD4 that they agreed to swap and it was the V6 with all the toys or an older 1.8.

Now I am thinking they couldnt wait to get rid of it because no one else would buy it.

Still it makes me happy, if not my wallet lighter.

yup - 19mpg and 200 miles to a tank is normal for a v6
crap aint they
Usually between 17-20mpg on unleaded petrol, maybe 18-21mpg on super/premium,not great but not surprising really as a heavy V6 automatic 4x4.Mine was converted to use LPG by the previous owner so will do the equivalent of 29-32mpg on the 22 mile round trip to work each day.:D.I havent really done many journeys longer than the work run so most likely could be higher, heavy right foot and sport mode dont help though..

Aye, Sports mode...used it once or twice, fuel gauge looked like a second hand on a clock. Tell me more about LPG please, so do I lose all the boot space?

:).Hi,much as I favour LPG over petrol/diesel for financial/noise reasons it's very expensive £2000+ to convert a Freelander V6.Ready converted ones appear on Ebay/Autotrader now and then, could be worthwhile looking. If you do convert you may have a choice of underfloor/cylinder in the boot, back door(spare wheel)mounted tanks, also an upright donut style tank may be an idea.I dont have a digital camera or I would post pictures, the tank in mine is between the two narrower parts behind the rear seats rising to almost the top of the loadspace cover. You will lose a lot of boot space depending on the size of tank if you use the boot tank option,I stick most things on the floor in the back seats so 9 times out of 10 bootspace is not a problem. No major issues with mine(yet!),but fittting LPG to a hot runnning/problem prone engine maybe unwise.

Cheers, sounds like a barsteward of an operation, I need my load space to much to lose any, spare weel option sounds good but at 2k a pop I might be sticking with the old liquid gold option for a bit longer...cheers for the info though mate. Your mpg qoutes makes my druel, option worth considering I say!

I could not have my V6 without runnning on LPG instead of petrol,my alternative was the usual dull Golf/Focus/Astra trio so when I found the Freelander decided to buy it instead.Probably would not have if I read the forums etc first.I do around 12-15k a year so saving a lot over the price of petrol. The more your mileage per year the better reason to convert.LPG 43per litre Unleaded 96,no contest really, keeps tree hugging mob happy as well.Morissons garage is a mile from where I live so no problems filling up with LPG either,SLOW! filling times compared to petrol a pain in the backside though.

Have I missed something here?

"I like the look of a Freelander, but do a reasonable mileage, so want good fuel consumption"

"Thinks! I know I will get the thirstiest freelander that is made and convert it to LPG"

DOH! - wot about a doozil - or dont they have them in Glasgow?

I spose its a bit late to tell yu that the KV6 engine is prone to overheating and localised water boiling and HGF and that LPG makes engines run even hotter?

good luck :D

Hi,Freelander was converted to use LPG by it's previous owner at a cost of £2600,so in effect cost me nothing.I did buy on a bit of a whim but at the price too good to pass up.Possibly(probably!)might not be a wise idea to convert the KV6 given its many inherent problems,if I had read these forums etc I probably would not have bought it.I did consider diesel but really dont like the noise.Freelanders tend to be problematic money pits by most accounts so I think I will keep this one until its too expensive to keep running.

Forgetting to mention that the fuel gauge is worthless anyway - goes up and down more than any other car I have had. Might just be mine thats bust but I am betting other people have seen this.

Just make sure you know how an LPG pump works before trying to fill up. Imagine trying to fill your Jeep Cherokee with LPG for the first time without properly connecting the hose. The result being a big pop, the hose flying through the air and a shower head to toe in LPG...

...not that I know anyone that this has happened too of course. Especially not in a busy Tesco station on a Sunday afternoon. That would be soooooo embarrassing!

Cheers
