Hi all,

My v6 ES station wagon is going to the scrap yard (collection on the 16/08).

I will get 450 quid for it.

I put it on ebay last month but pulled out as I was getting swapped with people offering 50 quid for it.

If anyone is interested. Please make an offer. I would rather see it going to a freelander enthusiast than the scrap yard.

It's a good idea to put your rough location in the thread.

Why is it going for scrap?
A working and MOT'd freelander is worth at least £1000 once autumn arrives. Down here in autumn, it would sell for £1500 or more.
I sold my mother in laws V6 ES in April for £650, which was MOTd and working fine, but was very tatty and stunk of fags.

You need need to make more effort to sell it for what it's worth, and simply ignore knobs trying to get a bargain. ;)

Sorry, car is near Aylesbury.
It is sad but it is going for scrap as the car seems to be worth less as a car than the scrap value which I can understand... just the engine is pb worth that.

From the feedback I got on ebay, I doubt it is worth 1,500 pounds.

Did the full service at 68k cover the belts on the engine again?
Window problems are simple to sort and it looks in good condition.
£450 from a scrap yard seems very high, most weigh in and offer sub £100.

I hate seeing these vehicles get scrapped.
Trying to work out how to help, in Devon but travel up to Reading fairly frequently.

If it's running well, list all good points first. Service history etc, way it starts and drives.
It's a low mileage and you've had it for ages, is it 1 previous owner?
Don't mention scrap value as that puts a red flag on the listing, I saw the listing and that just makes me think there is an issue with it.
Keep it on eBay and as many other places as you can. I would start around the 800 mark at first.
May even be worth sticking 12 months mot on it. I think you've underestimated the value for an older, reliable motor.
As said before windows easy fix.
Mirrors, I wouldn't mention in the ad, just on any inspection. Cig lighter I'd not mention either.
Sunroof, don't go into so much detail and just call it non operational but mention if it is water tight.
Wiper I'd try and repair.
Noise at idle, how bad is it?
For a car of that age it's never going to be perfect. Some things won't work.
Hope you sell it or someone here can take it.
How is the auto box? I'd rather know that works or doesn't than if the mirrors fold!

Probably due to the amount of work needed to get it back upto a working standard. It’s effectively a project.

Down here at the correct time of year, it's definitely worth £1500.
Like I said, I sold the mother in laws in April for £650, and it was in a complete mess by comparison to yours, with 2 windows not working, a massive scrape down the whole nearside, the sunroof taped up, and the interior stinking of ciggies.

You're ebay listing made it sound like a scrapper, when in reality it's just got some age related issues, which are easily fixed.

Hopefully Andy will come to the rescue. Unfortunately I'm a bit far west, to make it viable for me.

Fix it, fix it, fix it!

Looks in great nick! As the others have said, windows are a compulsory fail and fix for FL1 owners. I've had to do ALL of mine and it's not too bad.

Mine only had one key when I bought it. It was a cheap to get Timpsons to programme a new one.

Headlining seems to go south on these vehicles after 10 years or so. I'll be sorting mine this winter.

Front wiper could be the stalk (cheap scrap yard job for a replacement) or the linkages which I believe there is an easy fix for. Not sure about the rear though.

Electric fold mirrors, well, again as others have said, it's an old car now.

The only bit that would slightly concern me is the "noise underneath at idle"

It would be a great shame to let it go for scrap value.

'Noise underneath at idle' - could be something as easy as a loose heatshield, needs looking at by someone who knows the vehicle type ...

OK thanks, so they need replacing. If the belt or belts fail then it will be a scrapper!!!

As the belts have done just 9000 miles, in reality they'll be fine. Yes they're due in time, but have only covered a 10th of the mileage they're designed for. I'd drive it quite happily, and not worry, as I know the belts are well under stressed on this engine.
