I have a 2002 l322 td6

I have been working away sorting various bits and bobs. Next big jib are the rear arches.

My main headache though would be this abs traction susp fault.

I have now replaced the abs module twice for used parts. And still no communication.

I have checked live going to abs module.

I have no faults on steering angle sensor.

I have canbus fault on suspension. Random front right height sensor fault.

I also have thorax drivers low resistance but I have replaced with used and still same fault.

I understand these systems use canbus. Which is fantastic when working but due to its greatness can't be a difficult job in tracking down faults.

I'm thinking main control unit?

Also the ecu behind the battery keeps going on and off sporadically. A fan sound.

Car also has a aftermarket android head unit. So I'm thinking possible butchery shenanigans going on behind that.

Any pointers?
 
Hi, is this a new acquisition? If so have you checked your battery condition and cleared any historical faults before changing parts?
I’m on my second L322 and have had many duff faults pop into the display of both, usually after a period on non-use, that end up as nothing when checked out.
Also make sure there’s no moisture near the electrics, especially in the glovebox.

Sorry, forgot to say the fan sound behind the battery should be the fuse box cooling fan that runs on after turning of ignition.
Also have you done a correctly staged turn off ignition and battery disconnection as this could help reset the various electronic systems. Worked for me on a few occasions. While your doing that check all the earth points for corrosion as that will run you in circles.
If the same faults come back again check the wiring for breaks as it is 19 years old and been messed with as you mentioned. Keep us posted, especially if you find the culprit.

A common issue to prevent comms on the CAN is the headlamp levelling unit (Pax side A piller - white box about the size of a packet of cigs) these can get wet and go bandy.

The CAN uses a high signal and a low signal to pass messages along - when one of the units on the can goes south it can either keep the CAN tied up with a continuously high signal or a continuously low signal, meaning messages can't get through.....

One way to diagnose is to unplug each ECU on the CAN in turn until you can communicate on it again....then you know which is dragging the CAN out of action.....on the L322 this is chiefly the Headlamp levelling ECU.

I am well - stonkingly busy - and having 2 wonderful kids takes up a lot of my (and my wifes) time.

I so try to get on line as often as possible, but with work, the kids and fixing the cars - I seldom find the time to be as visible as I would like to be. But we are well.

How's things on your side of the infamous wall?
