Does anyone know where I can get vehicle insurance for a trip to the USA and Canada where the vehicle will be just over 20 years old and be UK registered.

you need to see what the insurance requirements are where you plan to travel. They very from state to state.

AD say no unfortunately.
Hope its not state by state.
Karl-Heinz Nowag say they can do USA but not Canada for a car 20 years old.
Thum Insurance will do both USA and Canada, but not on cars more than 20 years old.

What are you going to do, ship your defender over then travel around?

Yep if I can get insurance - by container to Halifax.
Do not want to hire a vehicle out there.

Three months perhaps a bit more.

It could be cheaper? how much to slip the vehicle? and with it being a 20 yr old defender parts could be a issue if you have a break down.

Check if there is a cash deposit at customs to get your vehicle in

Yeah most of the issues are sorted - the only problem is the insurance - any vehicle can breakdown - perhaps newer more electronic ones more so - have a working 300 tdi 110 parked up in shed to use as spares to ship out if necessary.

Do a good search before hand about customs. Read where I believe they want a 50% deposit on value of vehicle. Don't know if that would be UK value or US value. If US value then holy cow:eek:

Sorry Thor but do you know something you are not telling us!!. Have you had experience of not getting a car in.

Ok. Your insurance is cheap compared to US auto insurance.

PL&PD only covers the other person for damage or injury.(not you)

If your auto gets damaged or you get injured, it is tough luck Charley. Another person hits you and they are at fault well good luck. Some states have what is called no fault, meaning your insurance takes care of you.
