Have I knackered my compressor?
Had to limp the last couple of miles home yesterday in reverse! Had a sudden rear suspension failure and ended up on the bump stop within a matter of seconds. At first I thought the drivers side air bag had let go, it's been fine with no slow leaks or morning droops, but when I pulled the wheel off this morning the ride height sensor was snapped (see pic) and the air bag seems to hold air ok. So I don't know if the RHS broke first and let all the air out of the bag (sensor arm hanging down so ECU would think suspension way over height) or the bag suddenly deflated and broke the RHS with the axle on the stops. I'm just testing the bag with my finger over the hole and manually compressing it but there is no obvious leak. The compressor wasn't running excessively before this happened so I don't think it was a slow leak on the bag, however the compressor won't run now. I tried moving the sensor arm manually, with the engine running, but the compressor wouldn't kick in. Is there a separate fuse anywhere for the compressor or any way I can force it to run to test it? No lights came up on the dash so the ABS/ACE/SLS fuse is ok.

Need it sorted, snow forecast overnight so it's playtime if I can get her back on the road. I live 20 mins from Paddock and would prefer to stay on air but if I can't check the compressor I'll put it on springs for the time being.

There are fuses in both the engine compartment and under the dashboard.
Under the bonnet are:
  • Fuse link FL9 feeds the SLABS relay, which from what I can make out drives the compressor.
  • Fuse F11 feeds the SLABS ECU
  • Relay R5 is the SLABS relay
Under the dashboard is
  • Fuse F28 feeds the SLABS ECU
If you are totally satisfied that the airbags are OK, then I would suggest that you know what's needed first. Replace that broken ride height sensor, check the one on the other side, if one has broken there's a chance the other one is not far off too.
Because you've been trying to make "adjustments" to the ride height sensors with the battery connected you're more than likely going to need to get the suspension recalibrated too.
Personally I would take this opportunity to replace both windy-springs, both ride height sensors and then recalibrate. You're going to need a compatible code reader (Nanocom) to do that and you might need one to kick the compressor into starting up again off it's totally depressurised position.
And of course, ALL the doors must be closed while you're testing.

Thanks for the replies guys, all sorted and back on the road now. Just been for a play in the snow, what there is of it, to make sure all is OK.

So, for the benefit of others, what did you do? Apart from going out in the snow to play about.

As I needed the car working for this morning and I didn't have access to nanocom/hawkeye etc. I've temporarily converted it to coil springs and pulled fuse 11 to get it mobile. Fuse 11 will be back in this afternoon once the Disco's been plugged in and the SLABS changed to springs not air.
I'll be treating myself to a Nanocom for xmas so will put it back on air over the hollidays.
 
F11 is not only for SLS it affects the ABS too
Yes I know, but I hadn't had chance to read your previous helpful replies, both here and on the D2 forum, before I pulled it. I only needed the vehicle for a short job this morning and as it was mostly off road I wasn't too bothered about the ABS etc. The job will be done properly this afternoon so ABS, ACE etc. will all be plugged back in and compressor and SLS disabled.
