Hi All

I've had a bit of a disaster and not sure what i've damaged.

Ive had the switch trim removed and all the centre console switches and needed to use the car.

whilst driving one of the switch connectors, not sure which one, fell and shorted against the metal body of the stereo and has damaged something in the electrics

This shows by the following;
1. The speedo now does not work
2. The rev counter needle jumps up and down erratically
3. The instrument warning lights do not light up when the ignition is turned on tho they do light up when the engine is started and then go off as they should.
3. The Hevac panel flashes on and off when the ignition key is turned and then lights up normally once the engine has started.

I also tried to reset the ecu's by disconnecting the battery but all this achieved was the windows not set and sunroof not set warning to come up on the dashboard.

Anybody have any idea what I have done, or what I have damaged and how best to fix it.

Thanks

Chris

Blown a fuse? Systems runs from alternator when engine is running, from battery when not you have blown a fuse i would think. Have a look at them all. Reset windows sunroof by cycling them full travel down then back up.

Thanks
I will check the fuses although I did think if the fuses went that the fuse blown warning would come up in the dashboard, well all except the dashboard instrument panel fuse which i believe is fuse 1, im just hoping its not a screwed ecu or something

thanks

Chris

Did you have the instrument binnacle out?

A lot of these (not HEVAC) could be that you haven't put the multiplug back correctly.

hi
I'm in Sutton in surrey, SW London and no I didnt have the instrument panel out, i just had the sat-nav screen removed and all the surrounding switches unpluged from their respective swithes.

Ive reset the windows and sunroof now so at least that is done.

I have an inkling its something to do with the lights and seem to think it was the clock light wire that shorted against the stereo tho I could be wrong

Chris

Have you reconnected all the switches to see what works, or more importantly, what doesn't?

Hi
Yes i have reconnected all the switches and everything works except the following

1. The Speedo does not work at all
2. The Rev Counter does not work at all
3. All the switched circuits seem to work.

The problems seems to be linked to the dashboard computer and lighting too

When any of the doors are opened and closed or the car engine is stopped and restarted the trip computer resets itself back to zero mile, ie any information displays causes it to reset and the backlight on the hevac display also turns off and then on again.

Chris

Hi J

I will check the alternater output but I'm not sure I follow your chain of thought.

How would the alternater affect the above issues?

Thanks

Chris

You've blown 10a fuse in fuse box on drivers seat.

Far left I believe.

Check and change, should be a spare in there too.

Hi

Excellent advise, couldn't wait so I went out and tried that 10a fuse, your correct it was blown and after changing all is back to normal.

Thanks a lot, I was worried I'd screwed up the BECM and landed myself a large bill.

Thanks again

Chris
