I have just tried to take my p38 out of the drive (petrol 4.6), the steering has completely failed.
Turn steering wheel - no wheel movement.
Very concerned!!!!
Any ideas????
Cheers

Check underneath to see if anything obvious is hanging off then check the visible column and shaft/UJ under the bonnet...the steering is not a complex system in comparison and rarely fails as you describe so it should be fairly obvious. Other than the internals of the steering box completely failing...

Does the steering wheel turn freely round and round without stopping?

When you say you turn the steering wheel - does the SW turn but the road wheels don't??

If so, take a gander at the Steering column UJ's they are designed to fail in a frontal impact and IIRC there are little rubber joints in them that can perish.....

Any hoot take a gander the the UJ's they could be broken or slipping on the splined shaft...

The steering wheel turns completely freely
I am waiting on my mate to arrive so as we can look at both sides of the bulk head at the same time!

Suggests its not connected to the wheels! Stating the obvious but sounds like the shaft before it goes to the steering box. Any funny noises as you started and drove off?

Steering column turns into steering box, but wheels don't turn, does this meAn the steering box is knackered?

does the drop arm coming out the other end of steering box move??
Has the ball joint there gone??

Stand by you beds!
Job id'd just need to fix it in the morning!!!!
Ball Joint knackered, broken in two, never seen this before in my many years of driving!
Will buy new one in the morning and it. That's for all your help
Cheers
