Hi folks.
I have a Freelandy Mk1 Facelift which I managed to wrap into a stone wall at the end of December in the snow.
I have bought all the parts off fleabay and it has been rebuilt but the SRS Airbag light is on, although it didn't activate but the seatbelt pretensioner seems to have activated.
Question is how do I reset the ECU and where can I get a new pretensioner or can this be reset too?
I'm skint as this is my work vehicle and due to a shoulder op and the crash I haven't worked for 2 months and I'm self employed.
Looking for a cheap but safe fix as urgently need to get back to work
Any advice welcome.

hi

u will need to buy a new seat belt pretensioner , ie from ebay, u can’t reset them, know it sounds daft but make sure u get the correct side as there not interchangeable and double check the year , not 100% if there all the same

make sure u disconnect the battery first , wait around 30 x mins then unplug the wire and unbolt the old one

u can always tell they’ve fired as there’s a small amount of wire sticking out the end of pre tensioner and the black conduit would have been squished as it fired

You can purchase a pretensioner from fleabay new or used, link below, have you checked if the concertina on it as squashed down ? if so then it as fired and would need replacing. I think they maybe the same as the R40 or MGZT, battery re-set ?

can’t remember if they changed after 2001

Thanks for the fast reply guys. I have ordered a new old stock Pre tensioner at £35 delivered.
So, about the ECU, can I buy a used one that has been tested and plug and play or does it need to be mapped to the vehicle by Landrover? Or will a simple reset of the old one do the trick?

As for the battery disconnect, is there a radio code I should worry about? I have the factory fitted radio/cd.

no need to buy another ecu , it doesn’t need syncing

plus don’t forget the battery disconnect for 30 x mins before touching it

also what @Nodge68 said ref the radio code

very rare u need another ecu , ie crash data , for the life of me i can’t remember if the light will go out on its own or needs resetting , might have reset mine with a hawkeye ??

You could most likely not need the SRS ECU. However I'd not trust one that has been semi-triggered already. It needs to work when you want it to. So for a few quid, it's not worth taking a chance. It's a bit like using part worn tyres. They may be cheaper, but are the safe enough to risk your live with?
