I have lost the only key I have . Landrover Dealers (2 tried) advised out of stock for replacement and long back order.

Any one any idea of best way to get it going?.

Car is unlocked and at my home, so no issues about getting it moved, but I need to get her back on the road.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Prefer not to be changing all the locks, but will if I have to, and can source from a local breakers.

and how do I sort out the security Chip thing in the key?

Hi,

There are some shops than can make keys for you, the fob is not a problem. But for the key they need one to duplicate It.

If you don’t have one, certainly only LR can manage to rebuild the key based on your car serial.

The keys have a small part, the transponder that need to be paired with the ECU ... some shops have the tools to access the ECU.
The remote controls are easily paired once you have one working key.

The other solution is to the change the ECU, all locks ...

I understand that part, but I cant get a new Key with a transponder.... Looks like a complete new ECU and New Keys and Barrels. Feck

anyone know a,.link to how to change the ECU, and assuming same model and engine, will a 4 Door model ECU work okay with a 3 door?

You can get complete kits off eBay. Just make sure it's for an identical vehicle.

Thanks

Ill try that.

Anyone able to give details how to fgo about this. Clear on the Physical locks (door, Ignitions, Boot etc) replacement, but how to get ECU out and perhaps some tips on what to look for or be aware off.

Thanks all.

I don't know which solution is the cheapest :

A new key is uncutted and unprogrammed, so you need to find someone to do it. Look in your area if you can find a shop that is specialized in car keys. Ask for the price.

A car breaker can sell you a kit, that includes the ECU, 2 keys and the 5 locks. There are many on ebay.

Regards.

Thanks

Found a kit on Ebay seems to match. Going to give the house a spring clean in last ditch attempt to find the fecking key.....If I don't find it, ordering the kit of ebay.

Don't think a new Uncut or Unprogrammed key will work ,as I don't have an original to cut from, even if they can code the key.

Thanks. Notice ones on Ebay all came with a Dash. Do I need to replace the dash as well? And how would that affect milage??

No need to replace the dash, you just need access to the alarm/immobiliser module which is buried behind the heater housing, bolted to the bulkhead. It was put there to make it difficult to access should someone want to try to steal the vehicle.

Some confusion here. Most ECU kits do appear to come with the speedo and Ipack but that isn't needed. What is needed to get to the immobiliser ECU is the complete removal of the entire dashboard from the car. Everything you see in front of you when sitting in the vehicle. Huge job.

Thanks to all

That has been very helpful (And depressing)

Another quick note. I am aware that the FOB (To lock/unlock the doors) runs on a different control unit (I think) where is it and how easy hard is it to get out (or if the entire DASH is out is the work already done?)

Thanks
again.

Hi,

Remote key fob should work, once you get the car started, you have already done most of the job.

The easy way is to go at LR or a specialized key shop and give them your money and you will have 2 new keys. ( only key cutting and key programming is done ).
The hard way and certainly the cheapest is to replace the immobilizer... all the locks ... and you will get 2 working keys.

Regards

I don't have original key to cut from, And Landover (2 Main Dealers tried) reporting out of stock and a long lead time to get.

I don't have the original remote fob either (all lost) so if picking up from a breakers, will be trying to get all locks keys and fobs from the donner car.

So , if I go with a donner car from breakers, do I need a seperate control unit for the FOB?

Contact a auto locksmith in your area and see if they have the tools to do it.

If you have the right tools, you don't need to replace anything etc. Dealer tools require a in / out code to program keys, to make sure you don't just steal dealer software to write new keys to cars.

Check with a local auto locksmith to see what they can do for you first before you go down the route of replacing modules/ecus etc.

The auto locksmith might be able to decode your current lock barrels and make you a key.
