can anyone suggest a good alternator for a dse p38 , mine is the original one November 1999 so I think about time a renewed it .

Check the charge rate with a multimeter and if it's still putting 14,2v to the battery then it's fine ;)

Just had a look at Rimmers STC2227 A133 105 amp Alternator BMW diesel. £715.94. With a £93.00 exchange surcharge. Now that really is taking the ****, where do Landrover get their prices from. I have seen some stupid prices from them. Not as bad as £76.00 for twelve inches of brake pipe and two tube nuts but getting there.

were i used to work we used to produce stuff for them on a cost +20 basis so i used to have access to their costs for parts as well as retail mark up was rather steep some parts cost less than £100 sold for over £1200

I just had my Bosch 150 A refurbed - new bearings and regulator - for about GBP 150, and I think that's a bit pricey, given the actual price of bearings, but a bit cheaper than the GBP 700 for a new one!

Is there a bigger altenator you can get for a RR such as a 150amp etc?
Only reason I ask is due to the amount of issue a low battery can have for a P38 what about putting a dual Battery system in with a biiger alt and on top of this I want to put some audio equipment into the RR.

Here ring these , found it you need to give them your alternator numbers because there are differant bracket types but you can get one for about £250

Happy shopping ;)

Range Rover Alternator - The Starter Motor & Alternator Company Ltd

Anybody heard of these - Ebay Linky
I will have a look at the above recommendations as well.

All well and good but its not nominated to what vehicle!the most inportant is mounting and connections there is no connector block on our type diesel I'd rather buy from a reconditioner than of eBay myself hope this helps

A double battery system is a good idea if you can find a place for the second battery, set it up so one is for starting only and the other for the electronics lights etc. You can also get dual output alternators.

strangely enough i was looking at the alternator on mine yesterday,as i only ever get 13.9 volts charging, wondered if it needed replacing, on inspection mine is fitted with a Valeo alternator?,in a sudden eureka moment i realised i had one in the shed that i bought brand new 3 years ago,on ebay,as it was cheap for an omega 2.5td,never fitted it, so i compare it to the rr one and its exactly the same as the one fitted to my rangey, same fixings same connections etc etc, so now im wondering should i just fit it and see what happens?

Yes. If you're running a modern, gel battery you want more volts to get a decent charge.
